Anambra State Launches Diaspora Portal



The Anambra State Government haslaunched an electronic portal to serve as an interface between Anambarians at Home and those in the diaspora.

The portal was launched in Awka, the Anambra State capital in a series of events organized to mark the 2018 Anambra Home coming festival. The Governor of the State, Chief Willie Obiano who unveiled some of the projects executed to mark the day, said the events were organized as a way to further strengthen the ‘think home’ philosophy of his administration.

He said the State is safe for all residents of the state and for visitors who would want to enjoy the yuletide in the Anambra.

In her remarks, the Hon. Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Indeginoius Artworks, culture and Tourism Mrs. Sally Mbanefo whose Ministry was tasked to organize the events, thanked the Governor for his foresight in approving the event.She reiterated the huge potentials that abound in the tourism sector, saying that tourism has the potentials to empower and create a lot of employment for the youths if properly harnessed.

The Obi of Onitsha and the chairman Anambra State Council of traditional rulers, Igwe Alfred Achebe, who was a guest at the event, attributed most of the problems currently bedeviling the society to the negligence of our core cultural and traditional values. He tasked Nigerians to go back to their roots as a way of stemming the tide of corruption and moral decadence in the country.


Speaking on his experience in the State, the 15th Aare of Yorubaland, Otunba Abiodun Ige Adams, commended the State for seeking to harness the opportunities that exist in the tourism sector. He praised the Commissioner for sustaining her passion in tourism and for replicating in Anambra State, her great exploits at the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC). Otunba Abiodun said tourism can be a reliable alternative to oil and that the country must give the sector the attention it deserves if it must diversify her economy.

Highlights of activities that marked the day included display of colourful artworks, poetry, palm wine tasting and an array of assorted local delicacies peculiar to Ndi Anambra and the Igbos in general.
