"Proposed Review In Police Salary Suspicious" – Legal Practitioner
As reactions continue to trail the plan by the Federal Government to review the salary structure of the Nigerian Police Force, some analysts have faulted the timing of the exercise.
An Anambra based legal luminary and public affairs analyst, Barr. OCJ Akirka, who spoke on the issue, questioned the decision of the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to review the salary structure of the police force in an election year, taking into cognizance, the fact that they have failed to implement same for other equally important bodies like the NLC, ASUU and ASUP who have been on strike for some months now.
The legal practitioner said the decision of the Federal Government coming at this time, is suspicious and leaves much to be desired, he also wondered why a special election budget is also being proposed for the Police, knowing fully well, that funds for the same purpose, were appropriated in the 2018 budget for the police. He described the move as a careless waste of public funds.
He tasked Nigerians to vote in a manner that will bring onboard, leaders who understand the economic circumstances of Nigeria and who will be meticulous in handling public funds.
