Celebration, Fanfare As Anambra PDP Family Welcomes Peter Obi


It was an electrifying atmosphere in Awka the Anambra State capital, as the PDP family in the State officially welcomed  the Vice presidential candidate of the party, Mr. Peter Obi to the state.

Members of the party from all the wards and LGAs in the State, thronged out in their numbers, singing and jubilating as they showed solidarity with the choice of peter obi as the vice presidential candidate.

The event which began with an interdenomination service led by the Anglican Bishop of Awka, Bishop Alexander Ibezim, also saw stalwarts of other political parties defect to the PDP. Prominent amongst whom are: the gubernatorial candidate of the PPA in the last gubernatorial elections in the state, Mr. Godwin Ezeimo, a major stakeholder in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Mr. Hygas Igwebuike and Yul Edochie who resigned his position as a Senior Special Assistant in the State to join the party.

In his homily, Bishop Ibezim said the country has retrogressed as a result of greed and self-centeredness on the part of politicians who are no longer interested in the welfare of the people. He said Nigerians must use the opportunity of the forthcoming general elections to elect credible leaders who are genuinely concerned about the suffering of the masses and who have the will power to deliver dividends of democracy to the ordinary citizens.


In his speech a leader of the PDP in the State, High Chief Ben Ndi Obi, said Nigeria is fast sliding into anarchy, citing the wanton destruction of lives and properties across all the regions in the country as a sign of failure on the part of the current administration, he said the country is in dire need of quality leadership which he believes that the combination of Alh. Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi can provide for Nigerians.


The chairman of the Presidential campaign council in the State and former PDP gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, said the choice of Peter Obi as the Vice Presidential Candidate of the PDP, is one of the best decisions the party has ever made, he enumerated the achievements of Peter Obi as the Governor of the State and said he is confident that he, together with Alh. Atiku Abubakar can replicate same in the whole country.


Welcoming the defectors to the Party, the State chairman of the PDP in the State, Mr. Ndubuisi Nwobu, praised them for their foresight and tasked them to work assiduously in realizing the core objectives of the party.

In his vote of thanks, the Vice Presidential candidate, who expressed surprise at the gesture, thanked members for coming out enmasse to honour him. He said his achievements as the Governor of Anambra State would be a drop in the ocean compared to what he and his running mate will achieve if voted into power. he lamented the excruciating poverty and unemployment in the country and vowed that these anomalies will be reversed and Nigeria will be returned to the path of greatness again.

The Chairman of the publicity committee of the presidential campaign, Barr. OCJ. Akirka while speaking to newsmen, said the PDP has with this event, sent out a clear message that the Party in the State is a united and indivisible entity and that they are fully prepared to deliver all their candidates in the forthcoming general elections.

Other dignitaries who graced the occasion includes Senatorial candidate of the PDP for Anambra central and former Chairman, Senate Committee on Downstream  Sen. Uche Ekwunife, Former Aviation Minister, Osita Chidoka, Mr. Chris Ubah and members of the National Assembly.
