Anambra Assembly Quagmire: "Rita Mmaduagwu Remains Authentic Speaker" - Chief WHIP
Following
controversies that have continued to trail the recent impeachment attempt by
some aggrieved members of the Anambra State House of Assembly, the member
representing Dunukofia state constituency and the Chief WHIP of the House, Hon.
Lawrence Chukwunwike Ezeudu has condemned what he described as an ill-conceived
and ill-timed coup by his colleagues to force a leadership change in the House.
He made this
disclosure while speaking to newsmen in Awka, the Anambra State capital. The
Chief WHIP who labelled the whole process a charade, said it did not meet any
constitutional requirement for impeachment. He said the Uzozie-led group
neither had the required two-third majority nor followed the constitutional
pre-requisites for impeachment. Hence, according to him, Hon. Rita Mmaduagwu
remains the authentic speaker of the 6th Assembly.
He said Hon.
Uzozie is an impostor and is completely on his own, lambasting the group for unnecessarily bridging
the peace and tranquility currently enjoyed in the house. He however, tasked
them to be civil in addressing any perceived grievances, as dialogue remains
the best tool for conflict resolution.
When asked if
he thinks that the recent conundrum in the House is a spill-off of
the negative reactions that have trailed the primaries of his party, The All
Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Hon. Ezeudu admitted that there is no
perfect political party anywhere, and that in every election, there must exist
individuals who may not accept the outcome of the elections. He however
re-emphasized that APGA remains the best political party in the country and
that people should always take advantage of the internal mechanism set-up by
the party to resolve crisis.
Speaking on
the 2019 elections, the Chief WHIP tasked contestants to eschew politics of
rancor and bitterness but instead base their campaigns on issues critical to
the socio-political and socio-cultural development of the masses. He also
called on the electorates to actively participate in the electoral process by
ensuring that they collect their PVCs while engaging the contestants, so as to
guarantee a fair deal for them and their children yet unborn.
