Image
The Peoples Democratic Party in Anambra State has expelled its State secretary Mr. Emeka Obi from the party. Confirming this to newsmen in Awka, the State Chairman, Ndubuisi Nwogbu said the erstwhile secretary was found wanting for anti-party activities and actions inimical to the progress of the party. According to him: " The former secretary was found wanting for anti-party activities and actions inimical to the progress and betterment of the PDP. That being the case, he was suspended initially and given time to come and exonerate himself from the charges against him. Rather than doing that, he had continued in the court process against the party. So the party now, after a painful stocktaking, had to expel him from the party" Meanwhile, Barrister Okoli C.J Akirka has been inaugurated as the New State Secretary of the party.

Buhari Snubs Magu, Gets Senate Confirmation For 207 Appointees

Image
The President, Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has been able to get the 9th Senate to confirm at least 207 appointees for him in the last one year of the existence of the current Senate. The 207 already confirmed include judges, ministers, ambassadors, commissioners and heads of agencies. However, Buhari has not considered the re-appointment of the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu. Magu was appointed by the President on November 9, 2015 subject to confirmation by the Senate. But he has remained in acting capacity since then. He was rejected twice by the 8th Senate, under the leadership of Dr Bukola Saraki, based on a security report by the Department of State Services. He, however, remained in office. Saraki’s tenure as Senate President was characterised by a frosty relationship between the Presidency and the National Assembly. However, since the inauguration of the 9th Senate led by Ahmad Lawan on June 11, 2019, Buhari has sent the

Some armed men invaded the Nigerian high commission in Accra, Ghana, on Friday, destroying some apartments under construction. The affected buildings were reportedly being constructed to house staff and visitors. A Ghanaian businessman had accused the commission of encroaching on his land. He was said to have visited the place last week, presenting evidence that he is the real owner of the land. However, he reportedly returned to the site on Friday in the company of armed men who supervised the demolition. Officials of the commission reportedly contacted the police but efforts were not made to prevent the demolition. The Nigerian and Ghanaian authorities are yet to react to the issue which comes five months after the ministry of foreign affairs denied reports that the Nigerian commission in Ghana had been evicted in Accra. In a statement, Ferdinand Nwonye, spokesperson of the ministry, had said there was no “diplomatic row between Nigeria and the Republic of Ghana”.

Image
Ahead of the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State on Monday (tomorrow) the party has dismissed the order gazetted by the state government that political parties must obtain approval of the governor to hold any political gathering. The APC maintained that it did not require a permit from the state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, to hold direct primary as its preferred mode of choosing candidate for the September 19, 2020 governorship election in the state. Obaseki had in a gazette signed on May 28 and published on June 5, banned political gatherings that could make direct primary possible in the state stipulating that only indirect primary could be held in the state and in only one location, Benin City. The order partly reads, “That in respect of political gatherings for the purpose of conducting primaries for any of the parties desiring to field candidates in the forthcoming gubernatorial election, gatherings of more than 20 persons may be allowed, s

In a televised service the founder of Loveworld Ministries a.k.a Christ Embassy presided over, he stated that one can't believe in Jesus and be afraid of touching Coronavirus patients and other viruses. He reiterated his claim of churches still being shut because some church leaders have insisted that for places of worship to reopen, health guidelines he (Pastor Chris) described as "wicked" must be observed. Some of the guidelines include wearing gloves to lay hands on the sick and suspension of communion. Pastor Chris insisted that what church leaders are inadvertently planning is "persecution of Christians" as leaders in the country might currently be mockin

Stephen in a statement, said the ward executives who were elected into office in 2018 remain intact and have not been displaced by anybody, describing the claims of the lifting of the suspension as a charade. The Bad Apple Has Taken Itself Out Of The Bag - Ize-Iyamu

Image
Osagie Ize-Iyamu, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo, has taunted Godwin Obaseki, governor of the state, over his exit from APC. The APC had disqualified Obaseki from the governorship primary over alleged defective certificate and the governor subsequently defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which granted him waiver to seek its ticket for the election. In an interview with The Sun, Ize-Iyamu said Obaseki attempted to impose himself as the candidate of APC before he was disqualified. There are indications that the two of them will swap places in the September 19 election, Ize-Iyamu, the APC candidate and Obaseki, the APC candidate. But Ize-Iyamu said he is confident of defeating the governor who trounced him inn 2016 when he was the PDP candidate. “He (Obaseki) has now left the party, following his rightful disqualification. Many party members heaved a sigh of relief when he left and currently, we are closing ra

The board said the seven institutions “were warehousing candidates into institutions’ portals”. ‘I Am The Acting National Chairman Of APC’ — Giadom Writes INEC

Image
Victor Giadom, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has written a letter to the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), introducing himself as the acting national chairman of the ruling party. The party has been embroiled in a leadership crisis following the appeal court ruling that upheld the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as national chairman of the party. While the party announced Abiola Ajimobi, former Oyo governor, as acting chairman, Giadom declared himself as national chairman and also reversed the disqualification of Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo, from the gubernatorial primary election and ordered a fresh exercise. But the national working committee of the APC overruled him and appointed Hillard Eta, vice chairman of the party (south-south), to stand in for Ajimobi who was “unavoidably absent”. However, on Thursday, a high court of the federal capital territory (FCT) reaffirmed Giadom as the acting national chairman of the

Policemen Harassed Lai Mohammed's Lawmaker Son, Almost Dragged Him Out Of Event

Image
The phrase ‘nobody is above the law’ rubbed off wrongly to Folajimi Lai-Mohammed, a member of Lagos State House of Assembly, recently at the presentation of staff of office to Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, Abisogun II, the 15th Oniru of Iruland, in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State. But in this case, it seems the police went too far. Some say that the member of the Lagos State House of Assembly wasn’t recognised by police officers who were carrying out the directives of Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu in enforcing the social distancing rule. The security operatives harassed Folajimi and almost forcefully took him out of the venue. But for the intervention of some top government officials, things could have gotten out of control. The legislator felt embarrassed and was moody all through the ceremony – although friends tried to cheer him up. He was more furious that the CP, who also attended the ceremony and was in the know of what happened, didn’t show sig

We Tried Reconciling Obaseki And Oshiomole But We Failed: Tony Momoh

Image
Former Information and Culture Minister and Yerima of Auchi Kingdom, Prince Tony Momoh, explained in a detailed interview the various moves made by party elders to resolve the rift between Oshiomole and Obaseki. Here are some highlights of the interview he granted to the Guardian: When he was asked about the accusations by the Director General of the Progressive Governor's Forum on the failure of the party elders to reconcile the warring chieftains (Oshiomole and Obaseki), here is what he said: As an elder of the party, I can tell you that it is not true that party leaders did not look into the matter. I personally held meetings with both of them; four hours with Oshiomhole and another two hours with Obaseki. They were not communicating before. I resolved the issue of communication and the governor went to see Oshiomhole in his house and they cleared all their issues and resolved all the problems that had to do with the hospital, the stormwater project, the university, debt

Kenneth Imasuagbon: I Won’t Step Down For Obaseki, Even In My Dreams

Image
A PDP governorship aspirant, Mr Kenneth Imasuagbon, has vowed that he will not succumb to internal or external pressure to step down for Obaseki to secure the party ticket. Imasuagbon said it would be absurd for him to abandon his political struggle for the past 16 years to become a governor by stepping aside for Obaseki who joined the party a few days to the primary. He said, “The contemplation of me stepping down is preposterous. You can’t ask me to step down after my (political) struggle for the past 16 years. Why? How do I explain that to the people who laboured for me in the past 16 years? Even in the dream, I can’t have such a thought. “Nobody should reach out to me. That is of no value to me. There is no advantage to him (Obaseki). Let there not be intimidation or any form of manipulation of the process by the leadership of the party at the national level,” he said during an interview with one of our correspondents on Friday. Imasuagbon, who lost to Obaseki in the 201
